I don't think there is any place better in the world to buy a pickle than in New York. Our classic favorite is The Pickle Guys on Essex - truly the real deal. So many choices and they'll even let you sample. Off the touristy beaten path and well worth it!Lifestylist®http://www.blogger.com/profile/04184547526304221944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-853016460340980809.post-1149039261110556662015-08-19T04:43:00.001-07:002015-08-19T04:43:10.862-07:00Cooling Off in NYC

Thank heavens for Apple and the Apple stores. I have so many clients who have geniuses at what they do, but when it comes to html, code, and all of those other intricate computer languages they have no clue plus aren't interested in spending the time to learn.
The Apple Computer stores, products and geniuses make it so easy to have an online presence and look like the professional you are - not only do they make my clients lives easier they make mine easier as well!Lifestylist®http://www.blogger.com/profile/04184547526304221944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-853016460340980809.post-40532469244329697762014-11-02T13:50:00.001-08:002015-02-28T18:35:45.875-08:00A Historic Day For The NYC Marathon

The only thing that could be more exciting than running in a NYC Marathon has to be winning it, and today that dream came true for Tatyana McFadden - the first woman to ever win this race. About 20 years ago I was fortunate enough to have access to a loft in Tribeca. That was way before Tribeca was cool - in fact Sunday mornings we would have to go to Greenwich Village or Soho to get a cup of coffe and the Sunday NY Times. I miss the industrial, edgy feel Tribeca had then - now there's a Starbucks on almost every corner and traffic all day and night.

"Back in the day" we survived on deli coffee, or coffee from a street cart in the wonderful blue and white paper cups that were always the same. When I wanted something to brew at home there was only once place that could live up to my expectations - Porto Rico Importing Co.

I would always go to their location on Bleeker Street in the Village. They've been open since 1907 and understand what a great cup of coffee should taste like. Not fancy, not trendy, just great coffee at a very fair price.

Every year they have a birthday sale, and it's going on now until October 31st. If you aren't lucky enough to go to their stores to pick up your favoriote freshly roasted beans, they also sell online and offer free shipping on orders over $75.00.

I'm so glad we still have local places like this that remind me why I love NY.Lifestylist®http://www.blogger.com/profile/04184547526304221944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-853016460340980809.post-22772376097267624052014-10-20T06:00:00.000-07:002014-10-20T06:00:20.827-07:00Naturally New York

Curbed Magazine just showcased this really cool 425 sq ft apartment that this NYC Lifestylist would love to live in - every square inch is well thought out and used in the best way. There's a movement on right now to buy less and experience more, and thsi would be the perfect apartment to do that in.

If you would like to see this home in person, it will be part of the 12th Annnual Open House NY Weekend October 11 - 12. This is a great chance every year to learn more about some of the beautiful architecture our city has to offer, and the people who live here.Lifestylist®http://www.blogger.com/profile/04184547526304221944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-853016460340980809.post-58840289632938568692014-06-21T08:55:00.000-07:002014-06-21T09:09:55.295-07:0056 Walker in Tribeca To Become State of The Art Condos

I was shocked to find out a few years ago that a woman I always called my fairy godmother because of how much she had done for me and my career was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She really showed me the real New York City by sharing her friends, sources, restaurants and the other things that make New York such a special place.

Because Babette has never been a person to sit around and feel sorry for herself she started Team Hanky Paws to help raise money to find a cure for everyone afflicted with this disease. I got this form Babette today, and I hope that you will consider helping Babette and everyone else affected by MS.

Dear All,
Only 28 days to our
Walk MS, I thought I’d tell you how team HANKY PAWS (the team, not the
dog) was born…hoping I’d curry favor for a donation. If you can send $5
because it’s tax time (or whatever - no need to tell me) I’d be thrilled
and grateful. So, I'll trade you a story for a donation:
I never
had to tell my mother, but I couldn’t keep it my father, Hal. The only
time I saw him cry tears of sadness was one time before, when Doris (our
mother and his wife of 56 years) died. I dreaded his reaction - what
had he done wrong? What had he done to me? It was horrible.
I’ve always felt it much harder on family and friends.
Hal was desperate to do something. He’d donate to The Society, but not a
man of means, I decided we'd form an MS Walk Team. We walked 2 or 3 in
NY, 1 in Rye Playland (see photo: L-R Valerie- our great friend from
Croton who showed up to support HANKY PAWS, Tony Brown & Hal Holland
holding Hank and Ruby).
This was the last MSWalk Hal went on.He still raced up and down the hills and had a wonderful time.
He passed away the following year and I couldn't walk without him, my
heart broken, for a while after that. Now I also Walk because of him.
Yesterday was his birthday and someday I hope to tell him on his
birthday that HANKY PAWS is out of business - that they’ve found the
Cure for MS.
I’m writing as I hope those of you who have donated
before will do so again - $5.00 , $10, $20 -or whatever you can. Those
that never have, that this will be your year to send $5.00 or more
For a tax deductible donation, please click below:
Hanky Paws Link

If you cannot help at all, consider telling someone else about HANKY
PAWS by posting our links anywhere, if you can. Everyone knows someone
living with Multiple Sclerosis.
Thank you so much. Hope you’re all doing and feeling very well.
I’m so grateful and I know that Hal would be, too.
With love and great thanks,
Babette, Tony, Nancy, Ibo, Hank and Ruby
TEAM HANKY PAWS

I love New York City, and I love Apple pies.
It
may be cold and snowy outside but today is National Pie Day! One of our
favorite things to buy at the local flea markets and garage sales is
iron skillets. There are so many things you can bake with them, and with
a little elbow grease and some oil you can make them better than new.
The
Hammocks communities are in apple country, so it only seemed
appropriate that we shared this easy recipe for an apple pie baked in a
cast iron skillet. Enjoy!

Caramel Apple Pie
Ingredients:
4 lbs Apples - we like Empire or Granny Smith
2 refrigerated pie crusts
1/2 cup butter
1 cup light brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon allspice
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Preheat
oven to 350 degrees. Prepare apples by peeling, removing core and
slicing into thin wedges. Place wedges into a bowl and toss with the
lemon juice.
Put your iron skillet on the cooktop over a medium
heat and melt the butter, then add the brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of the
cinnamon. Stir until it starts to bubble, then place one of the pie
crusts over the mixture.
Toss apple slices with granulated sugar,
remaining cinnamon and allspice, then place in skillet and cover with
remaining pie crust. Dust the top of the crust with a little cinnamon
and sugar, then place in oven and bake for an hour or so or until the
crust is golden brown and the mixture is bubbling at the edges.
Remove from oven and let cool - enjoy!

The weather has been so unpredictable this winter in New York City this winter -thankfully there are places that are open and welcoming no matter what it's like outside.

Odeon has always been one of my comfort places. It seems like it has been a cornerstone of Tribeca long before anyone knew that Tribeca was the cool place to be, and the food and people watching has continued to be consistent.
Lucky for me when I had my Lifestylist journey in NYC it was right around the corner from where I was staying and was open late.
There are two things that come to mind when someone brings up New York City to this NYC Lifestylist: food and fashion.

If you are a devout foodie, having dinner at The James Beard House is a must. I've been fortunate enough to be behind the scenes with Chef Joanne Bondy at 3 dinners held here, and they were all evenings I'll never forget.

Noted chefs from around the country are invited to come to the actual home that James Beard lived in and prepare a dinner for up to 100 guests. Keep in mind this is a NYC townhome so it's a very intimate experience, and as the chefs are cooking guests are coming in and out of the kitchen. The dinners sell out very quickly so it's best to make your reservations as far in advance as possible.Lifestylist®http://www.blogger.com/profile/04184547526304221944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-853016460340980809.post-37540277836030903062014-01-07T09:53:00.000-08:002014-01-07T09:53:30.613-08:00Uniqlo Helps You Brave The Cold In Style
Brrr it's cold out there! I don't think I've ever been colder than when I was walking the streets of New York in the winter.

The last time I was there I discovered UNIQLO which I define as the IKEA of fashion. This innovative store offers fun, colorful fashion at great prices. These down jackets and vest were such a great deal you could afford to buy more than one, and they were easy to pack in your suitcase.

We are looking forward to when they open a larger online store and open in more cities - until then it's a great reason to visit New York City - just be sure to bring an empty suitcase!Lifestylist®http://www.blogger.com/profile/04184547526304221944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-853016460340980809.post-23842044004041261572014-01-03T20:33:00.001-08:002014-01-03T20:35:18.838-08:00I love New York!

There's nothing like New York - it's one of my favorite places to visit. My career as a Lifestylist® really started there - I was fortunate enough to have access to a wonderful apartment in Tribeca and I took advantage of every moment I got to spend in the city watching, listening, and learning.

Being a Lifestylist® is all about Life Celebrating Style, and what better place to celebrate than in New York? I can't wait to share my favorite finds here with you.Lifestylist®http://www.blogger.com/profile/04184547526304221944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-853016460340980809.post-62293039776200049072013-12-30T16:17:00.000-08:002014-01-03T08:31:13.123-08:00Happy New Year!

Happy New Year from all of us at The Lifestylist Brands. What's really great is these are both commercial projects - one is a clubhouse and one is transitional housing for 14 so I'm really proud of my clients for looking at all options. In fact, Champion Homes is doing quite a few commercial builds, including hotels for a major hotel company - I can't wait to see (and stay in) the finished buildings.
Many people have the misconception that using modular construction is very limiting - I'm always surprised with how many people think you can only do 1 story. In fact, all construction has some limitations, but with modular you can build multi story buildings just as you can with site built.
This beautiful home in Montana that was built by the EnergyMate division of Patriot Homes is an example of what can be accomplished using modular construction. It has a 2 story family room and rock fireplace in it -they just completed the fireplace on-site with rocks they found on the ranch.
Before you make a decision on who is going to be building your next home or building, you might contact one of the many fine modular builders that might be the right fit for you.
If you need recommendations on who might be a good fit for you, feel free to contact us at: answers@lifestylist.com and we'll be happy to share our list of qualified builders with you.Lifestylist®http://www.blogger.com/profile/04184547526304221944noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-853016460340980809.post-617621292225419542012-05-04T09:03:00.000-07:002014-01-03T08:31:13.150-08:00The Great OXO Salad Spinner Giveaway

Summer is definitely here, and it's heating up in Texas.
